Each year mardi gras gets better and better for me. This year i got to go to mom's ball for the first time! say no more say no more. my boyfriend came into town for the week. say no more say no more. mardi gras day way bittersweet. woke up early for a champagne breakfast with everyone in the yard. and then as a wild bunch of loonies decked out in our costumes rode our bikes downtown to meet up with the
st anthony parade. all was beautiful until an hour into it all i got the flu and was knocked out for the next 5 days! lots can happen in the first hour or two. here are some shots from that morning!

ruggedly handsome, delightful friend and fellow photographer extraordinaire zack smith had a solo show over at the big top this past august. i came with camera in tow and full participation in the 'wino special'. what a great night!

ponderosa stomp

i couldnt believe i hadnt been to ponderosa stomp before. i won tickets from TUL and couldnt as always find anyone i knew that wanted to come with me!!!! i really need to find a partner in music crime. so i think i ended up giving the extra ticket away to some random person in line. i didnt know if photography was allowed until i saw every other person taking photos. the deal was you had to go to the ticket booth and ask for a pass. so i ran all the way to my car to get my camera. got the pass. i was giddy. little freddie king is one of my all time favorite musicians in the city. here are some shots from that night.

Counting Crows

This past jazz fest i was able to see one of my favorite bands of all times: counting crows! it's been a decade coming. ohhhh that adam duritz. it rained...no no it poured....no no it deluged for 3 hours straight. they shut down the rock n roll for an hour or so. i took cover under these amazingly sturdy leak free tents, where all the vendors were at. the moment it lightened up i took off to the stage knowing i had to make my move before everyone else did. i bolted and staked my spot on the front row and for the next 3 hours i endured another hour of down pour, bad music ( better than ezra) and all the wasted college phrat guys playing slip n slidin in the mud puddle behind me. it wasnt in vain. adam duritz came out at the end of the better than ezra set and hung out in the sidelines. no feeling can describe seeing someone/ a band in person that youve only seen from a distance. they ruled the school. they put me under such a spell that the very next day i paid 50 bucks to join the counting crows fan club online. damn. what was i thinking!!!! je ne sais pas.

Reed and Seiko

My good friend Reed had been dating this Japanese girl he'd met in France for like 5 years. he moved to japan last year to teach and finally to be on the same continent as his lady! They came to new orleans last week to get married in an old Victorian house. brass band, crawfish etouffee, and a sultry summer day. what more can you ask from the dirty south. i had my hasselblad with me that day and took some shots. towards the end of the reception Sieko went up stairs to change into a kimono, reed asked if i could go up with her and document it.

The High Strung

One of my favorite labels out there is Park the Van records. They are a bunch of cool cats from philly with hearts of gold, taste so fine with nola magic on their heels. doc watson asked me to take some shots of The High Strung when they passed through new orleans on their tour with son volt. I met theses guys at sxsw this past year so it was great to see them again! here are a few shots from that day.
